Course description

This Beginners Guide to Digital Photography Evening Course is aimed at beginners who own a Digital SLR camera and want to maximise its potential.

Held in the evenings and based in a classroom environment, this course includes three sessions which run over three weeks.
As well as learning theory, participants will undertake practical sessions both indoors and outdoors and will be set small practical assignments in between each session.

Each participant on the DSLR course will learn how to fully operate their Digital camera as well as understanding the fundamentals of photography, such as how to make correct exposures and understand the relationship between Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO and how to make the most use of the lens. The course will also cover composition.

 

Course Content:

  • Buttons, functions, menus, settings etc.
  • Operating the camera manually & in semi – automatic modes
  • Optimising the camera settings
  • Light meter and metering modes
  • How the digital image is constructed and how it differs from film
  • The sensor, sensor sizes and covering area
  • Practical test to prove how wrong the camera can be in Automatic
  • How the aperture and shutter speed affect the image
  • Depth of field
  • Slideshow of photographs analysing how they have used the
      aperture and shutter speed
  • Practical exercise exploring the aperture & Shutter speed
