Going Pro is a course aimed at photographers who would like to take the step into the professional world of photography. The course is headed up by Holger Pooten, a successful advertising photographer and competent tutor.
This course is also suitable for college and university leavers as it will give you an invaluable insight into the professional photographic industry. All tutors on the Going Pro Course are active photographers with a wealth of experience behind them.
Each student is invited to bring along a selection of their own printed photographs and a selection of pictures they like. There will be a portfolio review, discussion about categories of photography and the direction the students want to develop. Different forms of presentation will also be covered.
This session will ensure that all students are brought up to a high level of technical understanding of photography. Will include profiling camera as well as output devices, colour management, ICC profiles, in depth histograms, use of external flashguns and more.
This class introduces you to the practice of Street Photography. Topics will include optimum camera set ups, how to interact with your subjects and your legal rights. You will look at the great masters, discussing how they got their shots and what lead them to such brilliant subjects.
Here, students will mainly learn about LR Library and the Develop module, ideal for when you start to catalog your work. Further topics will include importing, metadata, keywords, collections and more.
The aim of this session is to learn about the importance of light in studio portraiture and how to control it, as well as the relationship between photographer and sitter. For Fashion, the focus will be on the model, composition and selecting the appropriate lighting for your set–up.
Get down to the nitty gritty of the business side of photography. The group will learn about estimates, invoices, copyright and royalties and finally model and property releases.
A lot of advertising photography needs to be done with a higher quality camera than a normal 35mm. This session will introduce you to the Medium Format and Digital Backs, and their advantages and disadvantages. This course will be held on location round the corner from our office, at the Hasselblad Studio, Hoxton.
This session will be delivered on location at a current exhibition; the location is to be confirmed. Topics discussed will include colour, lines, perspective, rule of thirds, balance, patterns, framing and symmetry.
This session will cover all the essentials of Photoshop including adjustment layers, cloning, file formats, hue and saturation and more.
This session will look at the various types of lighting techniques used for shooting still life objects in a studio environment. The class will look at ring flash, creating even lighting and avoiding shadows, balancing 2 light sources, challenging perspectives and more.
This session will explain what conceptual photography is and the big relevance it plays in commercial photography. An assignment will be set at the end of this session.
The group will discuss their assignments and how to apply the methodology of conceptual photography to the commercial market. There will also be a brief introduction into business structures of advertising agencies and magazines.
