Course description

This intense and condensed photography course is aimed at beginners who own a Digital SLR camera and want to maximise its potential.

The course is set in a classroom environment and participants are taught theory, which is supported by practical exercises both indoors and outdoors.

Each participant on the DSLR course will learn how to fully operate their digital camera as well as understand the fundamentals of photography, such as how to make correct exposures and understand the relationship between Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO.

Students are also invited to bring along an image of their choice, which will be shown at the beginning of the course and re-visited and deconstructed at the end.

  • Buttons, functions, menus, settings
  • Operating the camera manually & in semi – automatic modes
  • Optimising the camera settings
  • Understanding Exposure
  • Light meter and metering modes
  • How the digital image is constructed and how it differs from film
  • Basics of RAW
  • An introduction to White Balance
  • Practical test to prove how wrong the camera can be in Automatic
  • How the Aperture and Shutter speed affect the image
  • Depth of Field
  • Shutter Speed
  • Slideshow of photographs analysing how they have used the
     Aperture and Shutter Speed
  • Practical exercise exploring the Aperture & Shutter Speed
